Rye Harbour, East Sussex, Permanent Cofferdam - Flood Protection

flood protection

Project:

Install steel sheet piles in East Sussex to form a permanent cofferdam that will act as a foundation and scour protection to a flood control structure.

Details:

The sheet piles were an AZ profile, 7.5 m long, these were supplied by the Environment Agency.

The piles were driven in pairs into the tidal deposit gravels to refusal. They were then back driven using a percussive hammer to get them to the required depth.

Although the works were not in the directly affected tidal zone, the work had to be sequenced around the high tides.

The works were completed within a week to everyone’s satisfaction.
