A27 Revetments, Portsmouth, Hampshire, Short Length Piles with Long Reach
Install short length sheet piles, using our long reach excavator equipped with one of our side grip hammers to provide scour protection to the existing concrete revetments alongside the A27 in Portsmouth, Hampshire.
At this location the A27 runs alongside a coastal lagoon. To provide erosion protection to the shoreline it is been covered with concrete interlocking blocks. At the very toe of this the tidal action had scoured the ground away.
To prevent further scouring and any undermining of the concrete blocks a line of steel sheet piles 5m in length were installed.
Ale Piling were asked to come to site and view our customers requirements and provide solutions for the scheme they were going to undertake. We proposed using our 30 ton long reach, which with nearly 18 m maximum reach would allow us easily to reach across the concrete revetments, install the sheet piles in a controlled manner whilst keeping the machine in a safe location and on stable ground.
This proved a very successful solution and our customers output targets were exceeded. Furthermore we carried out another further 2 contracts on this scheme, one requiring us to work around a high-pressure gas main without exceeding vibration thresholds-this was achieved!
We offer a number of Sheet Piling & Earth Support services in Hampshire and throughout the UK.
